John Markey is Certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the global leader in producing and developing the best trainers and fitness specialists internationally. John has over twelve years of fitness training experience and epitomizes the term Fitness Specialist. John's sports background include high school basketball where he was the team's second leading scorer, a two-year midfield lacrosse player, a talented amateur boxer with a 14-2 record spanning over a decade, when he chose to stop competing at age 29. John loves to train athletes but many of his clients do not share the same love for sports, and that's OK. The athletic background is essential to be a great trainer, though, and he firmly believes that everyone should have a heavy element of functional training--not just "this muscle today, that muscle tomorrow," pseudo-bodybuilding approach. Functional training not only better prepares you for athletic events but helps to prevent injuries, increase mobility, and ultimately leads you to your best physique, fitness, AND performance in whatever it is that you do.
“As Owner of Marquee Fitness, my vision is to break down the physical and mental walls that stop many people from working with a trainer or joining a fitness program. I know that many gyms hard-sell their clientele and charge an arm and a leg for training just to forget about you as soon as you pay them and walk out the door. That will not happen here. If we don’t help make you better, we don’t get any better. There are many challenges that come with fitness–physical limitations...medical concerns...motivation...and of course, the tough workouts. I have experience training all kinds of athletes in different sports, clients interested solely in weight loss, and a whole lot of people in between. We have a very spirited and motivating atmosphere here, you will never feel like you’re working out in an unenthusiastic, apathetic gym. Training is very precise without being over-bearing, controlled, and we cater to our clients–not the other way around.
